This page applies to Legacy and Outback models that were built for and originally sold in North America, with the following factory-fitted head units:. Model number is printed on the front of the HU, above the CD slot. On all of the above HU models, the HVAC controls Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning are electronic, with separate temperature dials for the driver and passenger, and digital temp.
Subaru offers 5 versions. Both models have been confirmed to work. The only difference is the color of the plastic. This hasn't stopped owners in the USA and Canada. Many have successfully installed the JDM kits in their cars.
For more information, see this thread on the LegacyGT forums:. See this post and this post. The rest of this 'Parts Needed' guide focuses on items that I have available. For questions about ordering and installing the JDM kit and RHD hazard switch, please refer to the above forum thread. Just about every question you could ask has been answered there often multiple times.
The car's harness which handles the HVAC controls has an 8-pin plug designated "i88". This connects between the car's i88 harness and the socket on the JDM HVAC panel, passing through the required signals from the car and providing a way to add the extra signals that the HVAC panel requires.
Wiring instructions. If your car has the OEM navigation system and you want to retain thatlet me know — you may want additional things from me. Please see the alternate 'Parts Needed' links at the top of this page. Also see this post and this post. All of the above models use Subaru's pin harness for the power and speaker connections to the head unit radio. You will need my pin "forward" harness link.
No other harness manufacturer includes the dimmer wire. If you already have a pin harness MetraScosche SU03B, or similar check it — you'll find that it only has 13 positions populated. If you somehow already have a pin harness with all 14 wires, you can order my i88 harness by itself.
I strongly advise against doing it that way. Using the pin harness will allow you to quickly and easily remove the JDM kit and reinstall a factory HU something you might need to do if there are any problems with the JDM kit, or when you want to sell the car, or if your car is wrecked and you want to return it to stock before the insurance company values it and disposes of it.
If your car has the rectangular -shaped OEM accessory subwoofer under either of the front seats, similar to this:. You do not need my "i85" harness for this kind of sub!
Again, no extra harnesses will be needed to retain that. Subaru models covered by this guide have a secondary 8-pin harness, designated "i85".
If your car has the OEM aux jack and you wish to retain thatI can supply my i85 harness with three plain 3" wires for aux.
To those you would need to solder a 3.Invalid Zip Code. To connect with Subaru of Hawaii, please click here. About the Love Promise. Anyhow, I was super curious as to how this stuff would be wired up as the connectors are WAY different. Thanks for posting the wiring diagram though! That'll help for sure. I occasionally see the automatic climate "head units" on Ebay and they always intrigue me. All the picture links in this thread are dead.
This certainly isn't high on my list of things I need to do, I just think it would be cool. Pat Olsen '97 Legacy 2. Originally Posted by Patrick Olsen. Bumping an ancient thread. My i88 adapter provides a plug-and-play solution to send those signals to the JDM panel without needing to modify your factory harness.
If your car has the factory Navigation system and you would like the ability to retain the audio prompts, e-mail me to learn more about additional wires you may want to include on the i88 adapter.
You will also need a pin "forward" harness to install a new head unit. The JDM panel requires this wire for its illumination to work.
If you already have a pin Subaru harness MetraScosche SU03B, or similaryou will find that it lacks the pin 7 wire. Limit one per i88 harness.
Does your car have steering wheel audio controls SWCsaux input, or OEM subwoofer speaker in the rear cargo area in wagon models? Then you will probably also want another adapter to connect to your factory "i85" harness to retain those features. See the "Parts Needed" guide for details. If your car was not originally built for and sold in the USA or Canada, please e-mail me before ordering. The midsize sedan segment is one of the most competitive in the marketplace, and it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd.
It's also a segment where buyers tend to have fierce loyalties, often staying with a make and model for over a decade. The Subaru Legacy has long enjoyed a loyal, if not a little cult-ish, following, but sales have trailed behind heavy hitters such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. ForSubaru has redesigned the Legacy in the hopes of closing that gap. It's a tall order, but the Legacy offers new levels of refinement, an impressive list of standard safety features, and, as always, standard all-wheel drive for extra traction in wet conditions.
An all-new interior, including an optional Providing motivation is one of two four-cylinder engines. While the base engine lacks a little excitement, the new turbocharged 2. It provides strong acceleration and higher fuel economy than the old six-cylinder. How does it all stack up? Well, the class leader remains the impressively upscale Honda Accord.
We're also fond of the stylish Hyundai Sonata and, if you want all-wheel drive, the newly revamped Nissan Altima. But any preconceived notions of the Legacy should be put aside.
With the combination of standard all-wheel drive, a long list of safety features, and a redesigned interior, the Subaru Legacy is one of the more intriguing choices for a new midsize sedan.
Each trim level offers a mix of appearance and luxury upgrades with the XT trims adding, among other things, a more powerful engine. Option packages are minimal and straightforward, and they provide similar features on each trim level. Most versions are powered by a 2. Every Legacy comes standard with a continuously variable automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
It also includes Subaru's EyeSight, a suite of driver aids that includes adaptive cruise control, lane centering, automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning. The Premium trim brings some desirable extras such as alloy wheels, heated mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power driver's seat, heated front seats, two rear charge-only USB ports, an Two unnamed options packages are available.
One adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and keyless entry and ignition. The other includes these items plus a navigation system and a sunroof. The Sport is similar but adds black-painted inch wheels, sporty exterior styling enhancements, keyless entry and ignition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, faux-leather interior trim, and red stitching throughout the cabin. Its single option package approximates the content of the Premium's more robust package.
Above that is the Limitedwhich does without the Sport's unique styling but keeps its added convenience features. Additional equipment includes adaptive LED headlights, driver-seat memory settings, thigh extension for the driver's seat, a power passenger seat, rear air vents, heated rear seats, leather upholstery, a blind-spot monitor with automatic emergency rear braking, and a speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.
Its option package adds navigation, a sunroof, a heated steering wheel and a driver-attention monitoring system. The Limited XT includes everything above, plus the more powerful engine.
The Touring XT is the king of the hill, adding chrome trim, ventilated front seats and upgraded leather upholstery.Quizizz admin
Wow, what a step up. The ride is quieter and more composed.
Love the extra oomph and power of the turbo. The new features are definitely enhanced compared to the previous generation. The interior of the Touring is quite nice.
Really love this Legacy! I generally like the new infotainment system and the navigation is definitely improved from my There are plenty of things to nitpick about the infotainment, as Subaru continues to have rather clunky UX or just plain stupid design choices with poor UX.
Not deal breakers, but just a poor execution that limits the infotainment system from reaching its full potential. I like the fact that we can now get over-the-air software updates and am hopeful that we'll be getting some bug fixes and even some UX improvements over time.We have more items available in inventory. So difficult to get external music into the gen 4 subies. And having a JDM car made this so easy, not having to do anything but to mount the double din. This product is great! Came to my door in 3 days much faster than I anticipated. Brand new, works exactly as it should.
Very satisfied with this product and company! Should have came this way to start with! It fits in the dash but only 4 of the screws that came with it fit into the harness. How to find the network path of a shared folder
Ordered on a Thursday and had it early the next week. Brand new in the box of course, works perfectly! This setup is exactly what you need for installing a double DIN stereo unit. If you intend to put the hazard switch in the upper left, it does require the use of a Dremel or similar tool to cut out some plastic behind, to fit the wires for the switch. I love this! I solved a very difficult situation of not being able to replace the stock stereo. Well made and nice appearance. The only slight drawback was the location where the shifter surround clicked to i needed to be modified slightly othwerwise there is a gap on the left side of AC controls.
